Twilight Pattinson flogs indie How To Be

While Brit first-timer Oliver Irving's micro-indie How to Be may not be high art, because it stars Twilight star Rob Pattinson, it has a target audience. The flick about a sadsack guitar player who moves back in with his parents after his girlfriend dumps him had been seeking a distrib since its Slamdance debut in January, 2008. I asked Pattinson about How to Be in a Twilight interview back in November (Flip Cam video below), which was seen by IFC Films buyer Arianna Boccho, who tracked down How to Be and bought it one week later for IFC Festival Direct.

Post-Twilight, IFC took the film to fests and one-off screenings in Chicago, Boston, and LA, which were jammed by Pattinson fans, who also lined up around the block in NYC last weekend for two sold-out screenings at the IFC Center.

Pattinson has happily flogged the movie, taking time out of his New Moon shooting schedule to do reads for the various cable systems promoting the film. And he's giving away the clothes that he wore during the How to Be shoot for a contest on Seventeen.com. IFC publicized Pattinson to drive viewers to view the movie on-demand (starting April 29) via Entertainment Tonight, AOL, Life & Style and MTV.com, which has long catered to the Pattinson fan base.

While there are no reviews on Rotten Tomatoes or Metacritic, the IMDb user ratings are strong, and the movie boasts over 14,000 Facebook fans. And the filmmakers have been sending out daily newsletters to keep their fans up-to-date on the latest How to Be developments.

I can confirm that 4 tracks will have Robert singing and playing; his character in the film is a struggling musician, so they are songs he sings in the film itself. This news will be officially announced shortly….

So, i know today is the last day to watch How To Be on big screen at Kinokuniya. Sheat, i can't come because no one would like to accompany me. My mom? she hates, really hates Robert. Impossible, i know. And, Nisa said that event had until more than 45 waiting list. Impossible for me to watch. Kinokuniya event

As we all know, Robert Pattinson is on How To Be right? Gue sih ragu, apakah film itu akan diputer di bioskop atau enggak. Mudah-mudahan iya.

Nah tapi, ada event keren yang diadain Kinokuniya bookstore(my fave). Lo semua bisa nonton How To Be bareng di kinokuniya plaza Senayan, tanggal 9 Januari kalo gak salah. Untuk waktunya gue lupa tuh-_-, kira-kira jam 6-9 pm lah.......

Yang gue masih bingung adalah, nonton How To Be nya didalem Kinokuniya atau di bioskop? Kalo di puternya di bioskop, i'll watch it as soon as i can. Tapi kan How To Be itu film indie yang yang ga terlalu gede kan? Masa di puter di 21?

Buat yang tau info lengkapnya, kasih tau gue ya. I've been so confused.

It has been an amazing year for How To Be. But first, let's start with some announcements for 2009!

1. We have sold distribution rights for Italy to Just Us Films! Details of the release are being worked out right now, and further news on the Italian release of How To Be will follow in the New Year.

2. For all you American Fans, How To Be is very close to securing a distribution deal for the US! We are also looking forward to UK and other international releases. We will do all we can to keep you up to date!

3. We are also very happy to announce we have been accepted to CineQuest Film Festival in San Jose, California. We'll pass on dates, locations and times as soon as we have them. This will be the first California screening of How To Be!

4. Official film posters, which we debuted at the Austin Film Festival, are now on our website. Please download them, send them to friends, and print them out!

And now, to wrap up 2008, here's a short update on what the cast and crew have been up to since our last newsletter.

In October, Director Oliver Irving attended the Gotham Screen Film Festival in New York and participated in a Q&A after the film. Our friends at Twilight News have a few pictures here . In November Johnny White (who plays Ronny in How To Be) attended the Lone Star International Film Festival and participated in a Q&A after the screening. You can view footage of the Q&A here and photos here. How To Be also recently screened at the Anchorage Film Festival on December 10th.

I hope i will get How To Be as i get Twilight!
