Five Reasons New Moon Might Be Good

1. A Freer Adaptation of the Book

Some of you were confused by the casting of the young fellow pictured here as one of the Volturi, who seem older in the book. But that's just the kind of decision-making that gives me hope. Fans are going to show up no matter what, so I don't think it's imperative that New Moon be as literal an adaptation as Twilight was. Some things will work better on the page than on the screen, and vice versa. For example, Edward is mostly MIA in this book, but I've heard whisperings (and seen evidence) that Robert Pattinson will be in plenty of the movie — thank goodness.

2. Two Words: Wolf Pack

And let me add a third word: hot. Dang, that's a fine-looking bunch of wolves. A movie with those abs and Pattinson's hair has to work hard to go too wrong.

3. Cool Special Effects

The special effects in the first movie were pretty laughable in parts, which could be distracting. Focusing on the story is a good thing, but when a huge part of the tale has to do with vampires flying through the air and now boys changing into wolves, you need a director that knows how to pull off the visual part. Director Chris Weitz (pictured here) gets story (About a Boy) and special effects (The Golden Compass). I feel good about him being at the helm.

4. It Might Be Scary

In a recent interview, Pattinson talked about playing Edward this time around, telling Entertainment Tonight, "I really want it to be disturbing." Apparently, there's even a demonic dream sequence involved. Moony, lovelorn stuff is all well and good, but Edward is a vampire and Bella is in danger by loving him. I'm crossing my fingers Pattinson didn't exaggerate. I'd like New Moon to be pretty scary.

5. Quality Casting

New Moon has attracted some honest-to-goodness thespians like Michael Sheen and talented youngsters like Dakota Fanning. I think that says a lot about the strength of the script and the faith folks have in the direction this installment of the franchise is going.

Cliff scenes already done

Yahoo Canada has a news that cliff scenes in New Moon is completed.

TOFINO - Filming of the Twilight Saga’s next movie, New Moon, has wrapped up after a full day of shooting inside Pacific Rim National Park Reserve and participants had nothing but good things to say about the bad weather.

It was the threatening skies, angry waves, pelting rain and howling winds that drew cast and crew members of this popular series about teenagers, vampires and love to this West Coast tourist mecca.

The weather is perfect for us: rainy, dismal, in the sense of the visuals, the mist on the ocean, the cloudiness, the erratic wind activity,” Bill Bannerman, New Moon’s co-producer, said after shooting wrapped Friday evening. “Everything is exactly what it should be.”

Filming kicked off at the rugged and rocky South Beach, located near Wickaninnish Beach inside Pacific Rim National Park Reserve before moving to Incinerator Rock at Long Beach.

Bannerman said the crew needed to shoot a couple of scenes that would bridge the story’s second act and show the characters evolving personalities and relationships.

Local topography proved vital to creating the feel of the Forks and La Push area of Washington’s north Olympic Peninsula, he said.

“It forces you, when you put it to a visual medium, to go into really remote locations to try to find that texture,” said Bannerman.

“And so this is one element we couldn’t find anywhere else. That’s why we love it.”

Security for the shoot was tight. A contingent of off-duty Mounties volunteered their time in exchange for a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society’s Cops for Cancer Tour de Rock - a gruelling bike ride that takes police from northern Vancouver Island to Victoria.

However, 17-year-old Laura Timmermans of Ucluelet and several friends managed to get close enough to meet the stars.

“They didn’t seem like anything but teenagers like us,” she said. “We were totally blown away.”

After meeting the actors, Timmermans said she and her friends returned home and watched the first movie, Twilight, on video.

The movie and books are popular, she said, because they intertwine the idea of immortality and love.

But Bill Fend, owner of Tofino’s Long Beach Surf Shop, questioned whether it was necessary to close down the Incinerator Rock parking lot used by surfers.

“To do it during spring break is unfathomable,” he said.

TheDeadBolt idea for New Moon soundtrack

TheDeadBolt.com has an idea about the perfect songs for New Moon soundtrack.

Dido: “Here with Me”

It is an eternal love song that captures the meaning of wanting to be with someone regardless of the distance. For New Moon characters Edward and Bella, played by Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, their story takes on the meaning of “Here with Me” and proves that true love can conquer all.

Imogen Heep: “Speeding Cars”

A song that chronicles forgiveness more often than it should be given. Jacob Black, played by Taylor Lautner, struggles with his feelings for Kristen Stewart’s Bella knowing that she can’t love him the same way but for some reason he can’t help falling.

Muse: “Time is Running Out”

Muse was featured on the Twilight soundtrack and “Time is Running Out” encompasses the feeling of despair from Bella’s perspective as she struggles to remember how to live, and not just exist with the uncertainty of Edward. RC: Agree! I think it would be good to put this song when Bella run to save Edward on Volterra.

Evanescence: “Missing”

This song could be interpreted mostly from Bella’s point of view in regard to Edward. But it describes that feeling of despair that every character in the series feels, whether it is Charlie who worries over Bella’s well-being or Alice as she desperately tries to help Jasper help himself.

What do ya think?

New Moon teaser trailer on May?

Amazon’s listing for the Twilight Blu-Ray Ultimate Collector’s Set includes news that a New Moon teaser trailer will be included on the May 5th DVD release. It’s doubtful that much footage will be ready by then, as shooting is only due to start next week at the earliest. Still, after only two full months of filming, the first teaser footage of Twilight was released during the first week of May last year, and with Summit’s lightning fast release schedule, anything is possible.

Reasons why New Moon filming in Vancouver instead of Oregon

Oregon Business has an article about why New Moon is being shot in Vancouver instead of Oregon.

Portland Oregon’s starring role in teen vampire love story Twilight, the blockbuster film based on author Stephanie Meyer’s bestselling book series, has been a boon to the state’s film and tourism industry. But production incentives and wooing by the state film office weren’t enough to convince filmmakers to return for sequel New Moon, set to begin production this spring. Producer Summit Entertainment will relocate to Vancouver, British Columbia, and Italy, VP of publicity Vivian Mayer confirmed through an assistant.

Vince Porter, executive director of the Governor’s Office of Film and Television estimates producers spent $20 million in the state. New Moon, which is reportedly budgeted at $50 million, up from the $37 million Twilight budget, would likely have brought in even more.

Porter says filmmakers were partly concerned that Oregon wouldn’t have the production resources to support two Twilight sequels being made back-to-back. The lower Canadian dollar also made filming in British Columbia cheaper.

Updates

1. Demi Lovato jumped the boat with other artists that want to be on the New Moon Soundtrack.

Sure most ladies, if given the opportunity and the talent, would jump at the chance to pen a love song for vampire Edward Cullen. But Demi Lovato isn’t going to restrict herself to just one “Twilight” heartthrob.

The 16-year-old Twilighter and “Sonny With a Chance” star let it slip to MTV News that she might be a fan of Bella’s werewolf pal Jacob (played in the movie by Taylor Lautner). “Edward Cullen — I would write a love song to him,” the singer/actress said, before giddily adding, “Or Jacob Black!”

Lovato also said she’d love the chance to participate in any way possible in “New Moon,” the movie’s hotly anticipated sequel, though she’s sure being on the soundtrack is her best bet. “I think it’d be cool to be in the soundtrack,” she told MTV News. “Maybe, but … it’s like anything that would happen that’d be awesome. I don’t know if I’d make a good vampire or a good
werewolf.”

According to New Moon Movie (the source of the above image), the title of Twilight's sequel is NOT the convoluted "The Twilight Saga's New Moon". The title is *just* "New Moon".

My Chemical Romance dont wanna be New Moon soundtrack

It seems that many people think the band My Chemical Romance would be a perfect fit for a Twilight Movie. They were even featured on some of Stephenie Meyer's Playlists. Well, they DON'T want in on the soundtrack!

"I don't think so," Way said. "We're very choosy. ... There were a few films that we didn't do the song for because it didn't fit. I guess a lot of people would say that a vampire movie would fit, but I would disagree with that these days. Even since Black Parade, I would kind of disagree with that. I don't know if we'd be interested in that." Read the rest of the story [here] at MTV.
